Protection from cervical cancer with HPV vaccine

In India, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) s an important cause of cancer of cervix, vagina and vulva as well as the anus, mouth or throat in women. Most cases of these HPV related cancers can be prevented by HPV vaccine. HPV vaccine offers best possible protection when done in adolescent age before exposure to HPV infection. Therefore, it is recommended for young teenage girls who are 11-12 years old. Most of the professional bodies all over the world including Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India recommend this vaccine for HPV cancer prevention.
