IVF treatment (In-Vitro Fertilization),  also known as procedure is a treatment which has become a blessing for millions of infertile couples the world over. Normal reproductive cycle

By the process of intercourse, male spermatozoa are deposited in the female genital tract. Then they go to the female uterus where a single sperm fuses with the female egg to form an embryo. The female egg has been released by the female ovaries and travels the Fallopian tubes to reach the uterus. After fusion and reproduction, the embryo implants in the uterus and starts growing into the foetus and ultimately is delivered as a new baby!

Problems with reproduction

Due to many reasons, there may be blockages or problems with this sequence of events. Some of them are as follows –

In the Female

• When both fallopian tubes are blocked
  
• Previous tubal surgeries
• Endometriosis
• PCOD not responding to medicines
• Genital tuberculosis
• Prolonged unexplained infertility
• Increasing age of female partner > 33-34 years

In the Male

• Low or zero count of sperms
• Retrograde ejaculation (when sperms go back to male partner’s urinary bladder and do not come outside)
• Poor active motility and morphology of sperms
• Other sexual problems

IVF treatment

IVF treatment involves taking a sperm from the male partner and an egg from the female partner and then fertilizing them outside the body in the IVF lab in a petri dish. The embryo then formed is implanted back in the uterus and it then grows naturally like a normal baby.
